It’s Mugabe or soldiers — Zanu PF

Zanu PF’s Mbare Chimurenga Choir on Sunday vowed through their recently-released propaganda jingle that only President Robert Mugabe had the mandate to rule the country and that alternatively they would prefer a military leadership.

The song, one of the many jingles the party has penned for the 87-year-old party leader, seems to confirm the thinking among many within the party that there is no life after President Mugabe.

Last week, Zanu PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo said his party would rather be run by the army rather than people like MDC-T leader and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

The lyrics go: “This country is run by Gushungo (President Mugabe’s totem). All the trees are under Gushungo and all the people are under Gushungo, everything is under him and if not, then the soldiers can rule.”

In an interview with NewsDay last week, Gumbo said there was no succession plan in place in the former ruling party.

“We have not worked out any succession plan.
“It causes more problems than we would have bargained for,” he said.

Asked what the party would do in the case of any eventuality on President Mugabe, Gumbo said: “We will cross the bridge when we get there.”
