Mavambo/Kusile/Dawn president Simba Makoni says the inclusive government has failed to improve social, health, education and other services in the country.

The 2008 presidential aspirant told NewsDay during an exclusive interview last week the inclusive government had not introduced any policy to improve the quality of life for ordinary Zimbabweans.

“The inclusive government is not doing anything for the country because social services have not improved since its installation,” said Makoni.

“They have not put in place any policies to improve the quality of life of Zimbabweans or undertaken any programmes that have led to a better life compared to the one before the inclusive government was formed,” he said.

He said the stabilisation of the economy was due to dollarisation and donor funding, which was responsible for propping up the education and health systems.

“The economy has stabilised because we threw away the Zimbabwean dollar in October 2007, long before the inclusive government was formed. It was not a government policy and what happened was that on January 29 2009, Patrick Chinamasa who was the acting Minister of Finance formalised dollarisation, which had been implemented by citizens a year ago,” said Makoni.

“That was not due to any policy of government because by the time dollarisation was formalised, the citizens had already dollarised this economy,” he said.
He said before the inclusive government all services like health and education had collapsed and their improvement was mainly due to donor support.

“What has been happening in the past two years is that many donors coordinated by organisations like Unicef and WHO have brought a lot of support into health and education.”

Makoni said Finance minister Tendai Biti’s Budget made provisions for those services, but the allocations were inadequate.
