Mwonzora defends Mangoma attackers
FACTIONAL fighting within the former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC-T party went a rung up after party spokesperson and lawyer Douglas Mwonzora yesterday appeared in court to defend four activists charged with assaulting deputy treasurer-general Elton Mangoma two weeks ago.
But the matter was deferred to today as the Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services failed to bring the suspects to court owing to fuel challenges.
Ironically, Mangoma, whose spectacles and shirt were damaged in the intra-party violence that occurred at Harvest House in Harare on February 15, is being represented by Tsvangirai’s former principal director Jacob Mafume.
The four – Francis Machimbidzofa (38), Enock Mukudu (31), Stefani Jahwi (36) and Samson Nerwande (41) – are now expected to continue their bail application before Harare magistrate Tendai Mahwe.
